In the 44th ADAC Zurich 24h-Race, the FALKEN Motorsports Team achieved an impressive 9th place, driving the only Porsche to make the top 10 and thus gaining the best result for the marque out of the entire field of 155 entrants.
At the start the notorious circuit, nicknamed the “Green Hell", showed itself at its best with sunshine and balmy temperatures. However, the race had to be interrupted after only 50 minutes when a sudden storm blew up and hail pelted down. As the weather had rendered much of the track impassable, an enforced three-hour break ensued. When it resumed, the FALKEN Porsche took up its place near the starting-grid and delivered a brilliant performance, notching up good lap times. The track dried off as the race progressed and with Wolf Henzler at the helm, the Porsche 911 GT3 R battled through to the head of the field. The night was an uneventful one for the FALKEN Motorsports Team, enabling them to achieve a first by chalking up a top 20 place by half-time. Six hours before the end of the race, the FALKEN Porsche under the starting number 44 made its first appearance among the top 10. “We're more than happy with our result", enthused Markus Bögner, Managing Director of Falken Tyre Europe GmbH. “This year, our tyres once again demonstrated how effectively they can handle even the harshest weather conditions. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our partners, Schnabl Engineering, who again threw the full extent of their expertise into tuning and readying our new Porsche for the race.“ FALKEN had invited almost 500 tyre dealers and journalists from all its European markets to watch the race at Nürburgring from a variety of hospitality areas. The guests were treated to an exciting and fascinating weekend of motorsports at eye level. As one of the main sponsors of the 24h-Race, FALKEN was also involved in activities on and around the racetrack. The FALKEN Drift Show and drift taxi rides provided plenty of entertainment for the enthusiastic fans. Visitors to the exhibition stand on the ring°boulevard could inspect a Porsche Macan fitted with FALKEN tyres, plus a DJI drone in FALKEN colours which was presented to FALKEN during the event. The stand also presented FALKEN's entire range of car tyres and screened a virtual reality video of the FALKEN Porsche on the Nürburgring track from a 360° perspective. 26 FALKEN Grid Girls attracted the attention of fans and drivers at the starting grid as well as in the paddock, and were constantly snapped in selfies. “We also significantly boosted the media activation of our sponsorship. Together with our technology partner DJI, two film crews, a helicopter and numerous photographers and social media teams, we captured stunning all-new perspectives of the race and distributed them via a range of channels", says Stephan Cimbal, Head of Marketing at Falken Tyre Europe GmbH, satisfied at the success of the event. The FALKEN Porsche was one of eleven vehicles in the starting-grid to carry a transmission system for Vodafone's live stream. “Falken stands for passion and high-tech, and we certainly succeeded in showcasing this to the full throughout the four days of the race."
